    Ahead of Anime Expo, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary world received an exclusive treat with the debut of a new image from the highly anticipated animated film “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim.” Scheduled for theatrical release on December 13, 2024, this prequel promises to captivate audiences with its stunning visuals and compelling narrative.

    Directed by award-winning filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex,” “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” features a star-studded voice cast. Brian Cox of “Succession” fame leads the ensemble, who voices Helm Hammerhand, the formidable King of Rohan. He is joined by Gaia Wise as his daughter Héra and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, the vengeful Dunlending lord. Miranda Otto, renowned for her role in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, returns as Éowyn, the Shieldmaiden of Rohan and the story’s narrator.

    The voice cast also includes Lorraine Ashbourne from “Bridgerton,” Yazdan Qafouri from “I Came By,” Benjamin Wainwright from “World on Fire,” Laurence Ubong Williams from “Gateway,” Shaun Dooley from “The Witcher,” Michael Wildman from “Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” Jude Akuwudike from “Beasts of No Nation,” Bilal Hasna from “Sparks,” and Janine Duvitski from “Benidorm.”

    Set 183 years before the original trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” explores the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand. The film chronicles the sudden attack by Wulf, a cunning and relentless Dunlending lord seeking revenge for his father’s death. Helm and his people are forced to make a daring last stand at the ancient fortress of the Hornburg, later known as Helm’s Deep. Amidst this turmoil, Héra must rise to lead the resistance against a formidable enemy determined to eradicate them.

    Oscar-winning producer Philippa Boyens, known for her work on “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies, is producing the film alongside Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou. Executive producers include Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood, and Toby Emmerich. The screenplay is crafted by Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou, and a story by Addiss & Matthews, and Boyens, based on characters created by J.R.R. Tolkien. The creative team also features returning Oscar winners Alan Lee and Richard Taylor, and esteemed Tolkien illustrator John Howe.

    Produced by New Line Cinema in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation and Sola Entertainment, “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film hits theaters nationwide on December 13, 2024, with international releases starting on December 11, 2024. Fans eagerly await this epic addition to the beloved Tolkien universe, which promises to deliver a powerful and visually stunning experience.
