Ortona, Rocco’s hometown, welcomed him with a heavyweight. His mother, pale and weak, vomited crimson red blood—a horrifying sight. Loneliness gnawed at Rocco as he tried to reach his estranged half-brother Tommaso.

Desperate, Rocco pleaded for him to visit their fading mother. He even went as far as arranging for a priest to bless her, feeling guilt twist in his gut as he blamed himself for her illness.

At the hospital, Rocco yearned for his mother’s gaze. He counted to ten, willing her to see him. But her eyes remained vacant. The news came, a hammer blow—she was gone.

Before the funeral, Rocco sought solitude. However, a woman approached, offering solace. But grief twisted into something raw, and they found themselves entangled on the very ground where his mother was laid to rest.

Grief, a relentless storm, clawed at Rocco, making him crave his mother’s pain, which was a tangible reminder of her absence. “I wanted the pain to keep me alive,” he muttered in a desperate plea.

In a twisted decision, he opted for circumcision, mirroring the pain his mother might have felt. Yet, the procedure became a new ordeal, a physical manifestation of the gaping hole her absence left behind.

Despite his unconventional grieving process, Rocco found a renewed purpose after his mother’s death. He poured his emotions into his work. He eventually won an award for his exploits.

During his acceptance speech, Rocco saw his father in the audience, a sign of the family’s shift from shame to immense pride.

However, this joyous occasion wasn’t without its shadows. Tommaso, Rocco’s half-brother, faced backlash from a group, which labeled Rocco a ‘pervert’ due to his career choice.

As Rocco becomes emotional over his achievement and remembers his mother, miles away, Tommaso’s world crumbles. Goons set his restaurant, which he built after enduring many struggles, on fire, leaving him devastated.
